Kopou phool/Foxtail orchid (Large)
Kopou phool/Foxtail orchid (Large)
The kopou phool, or foxtail orchid, is closely associated with Bohag, a marker of the season and of new beginnings.
This piece begins with that familiar form, and translates it into thread. Worked slowly by hand, the embroidery follows the shape of the flower through small, deliberate stitches, building it line by line. What emerges is not a literal rendering, but a quiet interpretation, one that holds the essence of the form rather than its exact detail.
Each piece is made by artisans in rural Assam, where the kopou phool continues to carry cultural and seasonal significance. The process is slow, attentive, and shaped by repetition, allowing the work to take on a rhythm of its own.
